There are two .jar files with every release.

• One for Forge 1.8.9, named VSM-1.8.9-x.x.x.jar
• One for Fabric 1.20.6, named VSM-1.20.6-x.x.x.jar

Download the correct one for the Minecraft version you intend to play on. The Fabric 1.20.6 version has dependencies which must be installed in order to use Fabric mods, these dependencies are found in the README.md
