Terminology

The terminology around splines is wild an not fully standardized, but I will try to be as precise as possible.

Degree and Order

The degree $n$ of the spline is the (maximum) degree of the polynomial function that describes a curve of the spline. The Order $k = n + 1$ is the number of coefficients used to describe a curve of the spline.
