  • added installation notes
  • added step-by-step for splitting a tree (what the stackoverflow post that pointed me here was about)

YES! this is needed. even more would be nice, but this is a start. Should accept this request

Unfortunately apenwarr has not been active lately.
The Readme has already received somes updates in my fork
on https://github.com/helmo/git-subtree

But please note that work is ongoing to get this integrated into the main git repo, see https://github.com/helmo/git/tree/subtree-updates
