Add log retention

Description of changes:

• Enhanced validation and feedback on parameters,
• Optional parameters can be left blank to omit them.
• additional validation for parameters in the Cloudformation template to allow 'faster fail'.
• Add log retention (optional) parameter defined, with backward compatible default value.
