Usage Guide

SlugSchedule can look a bit overwhelming at first, but that's because there's so much information at your fingertips! In this guide, I'll show you how to use the class search and scheduler.

The Class List

The Class List

This list is the most important part - it's where you'll find all your classes! You can also search for a class, or use the dropdowns to filter what classes are shown (by department, mode, open status, whether it fulfills any GEs... etc).

A single class

Each class in the sidebar shows basic details about the class, such as its location, time, and professor. If there's numbers next to the professor's name, that's the RateMyProfessors quality and difficulty scores for that instructor. We can see that Prof. Wang has a 4.2 rating on RateMyProfessors, and a 1.8 difficulty score. Seems like a pretty good instructor!

The bar at the bottom of the class shows how full the class currently is. The even smaller bar below it shows how full the waitlist is.

You might also notice that some classes have different colored headers, like so:

Classes with different colored headers

This means that the class is Waitlisted (orange) or Closed (blue), respectively. You might have issues registering for these...

The Main Panel

Once you find a class you like, you can click on it to reveal more details about it in the main panel. Let's try looking at a class like CSE 40:

CSE 40 in the main panel

Here, even more details are shown. We can see:

  • The class description and any prerequisites the class has
  • How many spots are left, and the enrollment history over time
  • If applicable, other sections of the class (under "All [CODE] classes")
  • Any associated classes, such as discussion sections or labs
    • Pro Tip! You can click on the "% full" bar at the bottom of any associated class to see its enrollment history as well!
  • A sidebar showing walking distance from your college of choice (see the home page), and any other details about the class

If we scroll down, we can also see actual reviews from RateMyProfessors for this instructor! We can also see that 100% of reviewers would take her again. Awesome!

Getoor's RateMyProfessors scores

This seems like a pretty good class to take, so you can star it for later by clicking the "star" icon in the course list, or next to the class name in the main panel.

From there it will go into the "starred classes" section, which you can visit by clicking the white star icon in the leftmost sidebar.

Awesome!

Using the Scheduler

Now that we know of a class we want to take, let's put it on our schedule! Click the "calendar" icon in the leftmost sidebar. The main window should change to a week schedule.

Note: on mobile, you must tap "Open Scheduler" at the bottom to see the schedule.

The Scheduler

The star icon also has changed to a plus. Clicking the plus will add that class to our schedule...

Associated classes prompt

But wait, this class has an associated discussion section! It seems like we have to take this discussion section, as listed in the Class Notes. We'll take DIS 01A for this example.

And now we have an idea of what our class schedule will look like! When enrolling, you can scroll to the bottom of the schedule to easily add each class to your shopping cart.

Class numbers

But wait, we're not done yet! When going back to the class search, some classes now have an orange or red time, like so:

Classes with orange or red times

You can also see these highlights in associated classes:

Associated classes with orange and red times

What does this mean? Well:

  • If the time is orange, that means you have a class within 30 minutes of that class. Make sure you know what you're doing in this case, as this can make commuting a little stressful.
  • If the time is red, that means you have a class on your schedule that overlaps with this class. This is a bad idea!

If we add each of these classes to our schedule, we can see that CSE 142 is very close (15 min) to CSE 40, and CSE 144 completely overlaps it. This wouldn't be a good schedule to have!

Closing tips

That about wraps up how to use SlugSchedule! Here's some closing tips for you:

  • The data should update about once every hour. You can see when it last updated by going to the home screen (click the SlugSchedule icon).
    • You can also set your "home" to accurately estimate walking distances here! Pick between any of the ten colleges.
  • Want to share your schedule or class with a friend, or even to another device? Click the share icon next to the scheduler or a class to easily send it via link or QR code.
  • Want to see previous quarters' schedules? Click the quarter date on the bottom left of the screen (bottom right on mobile) and select the quarter you want!
