Conceptual model

According to the interview and requirements identification, we found gestures and etiquettes are the major barriers that affecting cross-culture communication and leads to confusion when people travel abroad. Therefore, we want to develop a website that contains these content which can be filtered both by nationality and categories. We expect the users to have an educational browsing experience, which they acquire culture knowledge before they traveling abroad.

When participants mentioned that they encountered culture barriers when traveling overseas, we found one of the common barriers are non-verbal expressions. Therefore, we decided to offer this kind of information under the name of "gesture". It contains different categories includes friendly gesture, the gesture of respects, celebratory gesture, finger-counting, obscene gestures, taunts, head motions, and other gestures.

We include another category, namely etiquette. Many people get confused the social interaction in other countries, we decided to introduce these under this category, which includes greetings, making payments, visiting someone's house, table manners, funerals, bars & restaurants, driving, business etiquette, and hierarchy and honoring the elder.

Lastly, each of our content providers can only represent one nationality, we cannot offer much cultural information of countries we never been to. Therefore, we decided to add a voting site to improve the authentic information. The users are able to vote for each content if they know this is the true one or false one based on their experiences.
