thanks for your contribution! sorry it took me so long. with your new additions, is it even necessary to keep the old way around? i appreciate your thoughtfulness to not muck around too much, but it seems to me like Win32 API hooks are just the better way forward if they're more reliable, and could make this process more responsive for the users of these scripts

I agree that we could prioritize the more reliable Win32 API method.
It’s a much more robust solution.
And cleaning up the code by removing the older, less reliable approach is the right way to go.
