Use Cases
The following diagram provides an overview of the use cases Hono supports.
This use case describes how Devices can upload telemetry data to Hono. Devices can be connected to Hono via a Protocol Adapter or directly using AMQP 1.0.
Downstream consumers like Business Applications can subscribe to (and receive) telemetry data published by devices belonging to a particular tenant.

The Device Registration use case describes how a Device Manager can make Hono aware of devices that will connect to the service and send telemetry data. It can be used to register both devices that are connected to Hono via a Protocol Adapter as well as devices that connect to Hono directly using AMQP 1.0.
Device Managers can also retrieve registration information for a particular device from Hono.
The Device Manager role can assumed by individual persons manually registering devices but also by an application component that automatically registers devices for e.g. a tenant as part of an automated provisioning process.
