Example of a Dell WWAN drivers setup that uses the dell_wwan_sysID.dat file to prevent unapproved models from activating their WWAN Mini-PCI cards.

Actually, Dell broadband cards are just rebranded Sony Ericsson and Sierra Wireless brandband cards with a different device ID, but the original versions are just much more rare to find online for purchase.

And with Dell laptops, their own Dell-branded WWAN versions are able to be detected by their BIOS instead of otherwise letting you use other card brands in Windows, but having their BIOS still saying 'WWAN Not Installed' (BIOS computer info page).
