VSCode Spotify Player

VSCode Spotify Player is a Visual Studio Code extension that enables you to control your Spotify directly within the VSCode environment.

Features

  • 🔊 Get Currently Playing Song: Retrieve information about the currently playing song.
  • ⏭️ Play the Next Song: Skip to the next song in your Spotify queue.
  • 🎵 Search and Play Songs: Search for a specific song and start playing it immediately.

How to Use Commands

You can access the extension's features using the VSCode Command Palette:

  1. Open the Command Palette by pressing Ctrl+Shift+P (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+Shift+P (Mac).
  2. Type one of the following commands and select it:
    • "Spotify: Get Currently Playing Song" - Displays the details of the song currently playing on Spotify.
    • "Spotify: Play Next Song" - Skips to the next song in your Spotify queue.
    • "Spotify: Search and Play Song" - Prompts you to search for a song by name and plays it immediately.

Requirements

Make sure you have the following prerequisites installed before using the extension:

  • pnpm - Package manager for Node.js projects.
  • Node.js - JavaScript runtime.

🛠️ Setup and Configuration

Before running the extension, you need to create a Spotify app. Follow the official guide to create your app on the Spotify Developer Dashboard.

Configuration

  1. Open .vscode/tasks.json in your VSCode workspace.
  2. Update the following settings with your Spotify app details:

Install dependencies

pnpm install

Build

Before building, ensure you have set the required environment variables on your system. Build the extension using:

pnpm build
