Summary of Changes

Hello @JacksonMei, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!

This pull request refactors the default Dockerfile template by transitioning from a generic Python base image to a custom, parameterized base image. This change aims to enhance control and standardization over the build environment, ensuring consistency across deployments. Additionally, it includes a minor adjustment to explicitly use python3 for package installations.

Highlights

  • Base Image Update: The Dockerfile's base image has been changed from a generic python:3.12-slim to a custom image defined by AENV_BASE_REGISTRY, AENV_BASE_IMAGE, and AENV_BASE_VERSION arguments, allowing for more controlled and standardized environments.
  • Explicit Python 3 Usage: The pip install command within the Dockerfile now explicitly calls python3 instead of python.
  • New Build Arguments: Introduced new ARG declarations (AENV_BASE_REGISTRY, AENV_BASE_IMAGE, AENV_BASE_VERSION) to provide greater flexibility in specifying the custom base image during the build process.

🧠 New Feature in Public Preview: You can now enable Memory to help Gemini Code Assist learn from your team's feedback. This makes future code reviews more consistent and personalized to your project's style. Click here to enable Memory in your admin console.

Code Review

This pull request updates the base Docker image used in the default project template. The new base image is now configurable via build arguments, which is a good improvement. My review includes a few suggestions for the Dockerfile to optimize build times by leveraging layer caching, improve container shutdown behavior by using the exec form for ENTRYPOINT, and to remove a temporary comment.

To leverage Docker's layer caching more effectively, you should copy requirements.txt and install dependencies before copying the rest of the application code. This prevents re-installing dependencies every time a source file changes, which can significantly speed up the build process.

I suggest changing these lines to:

COPY requirements.txt /app/requirements.txt
RUN python3 -m pip install --no-cache-dir -r /app/requirements.txt
COPY . .

Using the shell form of ENTRYPOINT (e.g., ENTRYPOINT ["/bin/bash", "-c"]) can cause issues with signal handling. The shell process (PID 1) might not forward signals like SIGTERM to your application, preventing a graceful shutdown. It's better to use the 'exec' form, which makes your application the main process (PID 1) in the container.

This comment appears to be for testing and should be removed to keep the Dockerfile template clean and professional.
