Choose a topic

Choose a topic from this list. Ensure that you choose something that relates to computer science in some way.

Scholarly Research

Complete research that would demonstrate your understanding of the following points, relating the information to your chosen topic above. Note that Large-Language Models (LLMs, e.g. ChatGPT) can be used as a starting point for your research, but should not be submitted as a final product.

  • What your topic is.
  • Societal impacts of your topic.
  • Ethical impacts of your topic and possible solutions (other than awareness/education)
  • How might your topic be used to support environmental protection measures.
  • Two careers that can be found working on, or with, your topic. The following sub-information is required for the careers section of this project.
    • One career must have a traditional post-secondary education pathway. Describe the education that is needed along that pathway.
    • For the other, you must include non-traditional experiential learning opportunities that you could complete to become someone working in that field (do not mention internships or co-operative education).
    • Include trends of the careers above (i.e. salary going up, amount of jobs available, etc.).
    • Limitations on careers: The careers chosen cannot be computer programmers, software engineers, or any related/similar career. Any career that does not have programming (or supervising programmers) is a valid choice for this project.

Create Product

Upon completing your research, collate and present your data in any creative way of your choosing (examples include: monologue, soliloquy, song, spoken word, video, mindmap, etc.). Product limitations include: no word-processing documents (or similar), no slideshows (or similar), and a portion of the work needs to be accessible on the web (via a link, shared link, or upload to Brightspace/Google Classroom). For example, if you create a song, monologue, soliloquy, spoken word, etc. where the material is verbally presented, then have a transcript of the work available to reference during your discourse.

Discourse with Teacher

You will be presenting your data in a one-on-one manner with the teacher. This is an interactive verbal discourse where the teacher will be testing your knowledge of the information you are providing. Be prepared to answer difficult questions and understand all of the acronyms in your presentation. You are allowed to have notes with you, but you should not have a full script.

Citations and Notes

For the above tasks, complete the following regarding citations:

  • Cite your work using IEEE format.
  • Cite all images used. You can provide a list of hyperlinks to the images used.
  • Keep a copy of your notes, as they might be requested in the future.
