Motion is an open project from Netmail which presents a new, modern means of interacting with messages.

The goal of Motion is to describe a mechanism by which any source of messages, (ie an MTA, Archive system, chat server, email client, etc) can learn more about a message and can act on a message based on what was learned. This is achieved by use of motion services.

Goals:

  • Built-in and external services
    • Discovery services: Provide detail and additional information about a message
    • Action services: Perform an action on a message
  • Reference MTA and mailbox scanner implementation in NodeJS: condition services, forward to SMTP or write to mailbox.

This wiki currently serves as a testing grounds for ideas, plans, examples and possibilities. As tools develop and details gel, it will serve as additional documentation and conceptual background for the project.
