The original images can be found in the following directory on macOS Big Sur 11 (Safari 14) and higher:

/Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/Background Images

Images added in macOS Sequoia 15.2 (Safari 18.2) can be found in the following directory* and higher after they have been downloaded through Safari:

~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Safari/Data/Library/Safari/StartPage/MobileAssetBackgroundImages
