Design principles

  1. minimize number of technical options to express the same content
  2. agree a minimal interoperable core (w/o excluding modularity and extensibility)
  3. avoid recursion (in core elements)
  4. prefer relational modeling to nesting
  5. there must be a method fore preserving listing order of senses (but also subentries, and other relations, i.e. display order needs to be explicit)
  6. avoid semantic (logically harmful) circularity in crossreferencing

Open considerations

  1. is the RDF introduced recursion based on the relationship of e.g. "subsense" different from nesting based recursion?
  2. relationship to concept based models - how to model sense disambiguation under a headword?
  3. division of labour between children and parents when encoding order of subsenses and subentries

Out of scope

  1. retrodigitisation
  2. circularity of definitions
