The group meetings times may change from semester to semester to accommodate the changing
schedules of group memebers.
Everyone should attend group meeting as much as possible. If you have a conflict
which prevents you from attending, let Prof. Abernathey know ahead of time.

### Scheduled Meetings

Meetings are a part of science.
In order to get the most out of meetings, especially as a meeting convener,
it's highly recommended to review Greg Wilson's notes on
[how to run a meeting](https://buildtogether.tech/important/#meetings).

When scheduling meetings, everyone should use the Google Calendar that comes with
their [LDEO GSuite account](https://ldeo-it.ldeo.columbia.edu/content/g-suite-ldeo).
Each meeting should correspond to a calendar event.
Attendees should be added via email to the "guests" section of the event.
The event should includes a physical location or Zoom link.
Attach any agendas or other notes to the calendar event which can help provide context.
Meetings should only be scheduled during reasonable work hours, with exceptions made to accomodate
colleagues in other timezones.

When you are the one calling the meeting, you should create the calendar event and agenda yourself
and share it with the other attendees.
When you are invited to a meeting, a notification will go to your email and appear on you
Google Calendar; you should either "accept" or "decline" these invitiation so everyone
else is aware of your availability.

Missing meetings for which you have accepted an invitation is unprofessional and should be
avoided as much as possible.
Acceptable reasons to miss a meeting include medical or familiy emergencies.
If you anticipate missing a meeting you have committed to, send a note to the meeting chair as soon as possible.
If you miss a meeting unexpectedly, a note of explanation / apology may be appropriate.
