Open Visualisation Environment - Install

This repository contains a collection of installers for Open Visualisation Environment (OVE).

OVE is an open-source software stack, designed to be used in large high resolution display (LHRD) environments like the Imperial College Data Science Institute's Data Observatory.

We welcome collaboration under our Code of Conduct.

Running the script

The compiled setup can be downloaded from the repository releases for each platform. The latest release can be found here. The file will guide you thorough all the parameters of the setup process.

Alternatively, if Python 2 or 3 is installed then the script can be executed directly, without compilation, by cloning or downloading this repository then running setup.py.

Developing/Building a single setup file

Windows:

The setup procedure expects that you run pip and pyinstaller in Command Prompt. Therefore, when you install Python, please make sure to select the Add Python VERSION to PATH option. If you have already installed Python, please make sure that your %PATH% environment variable includes Python and Python\Scripts in it.

Linux/Mac/Windows:

  • Create a virtual environment with virtualenv
  • Install the dependencies (requirements.txt) by running:
pip install -r requirements.txt
  • Build the compiled setup/executable by running:

Linux/Mac:

pyinstaller setup.py --add-data templates/docker-compose.*.yml:templates \
                     --add-data templates/config/*.*:templates/config \
                     --add-data versions.json:. \
                     --onefile
  • At the end of the build, the compiled setup file can be found at dist/setup.

Windows:

pyinstaller setup.py --add-data "templates/docker-compose.*.yml;templates" \
                     --add-data "templates/config/*.*;templates/config" \
                     --add-data "versions.json;." \
                     --onefile
  • At the end of the build, the compiled setup file can be found at dist/setup.exe.
