This is where you'll land when you open the program. This tab serves as the central hub for managing your CoilSnake project folders. It allows you to open projects, save all changes, and reload the workspace to reflect any applied updates. You can also see lots of information on the right:

  • Title - The name of the project (You can edit it)
  • Author - The people working on the project (You can edit it)
  • Description - Any other information about the project (You can edit it)
  • CoilSnake Version: The version used to decompile the loaded project.
  • Path: The location of the project on your computer
  • EBME Changelog: The version of the EarthBound Map Editor in use and version history. If you're reporting a bug, make sure to include the version you are on!

Title, Author, and Description aren't compiled into the hack itself, but they're useful for organising and sharing projects.

The Recent Projects panel on the left is good for a few things besides the obvious. For instance, if you need to examine how a specific feature was implemented in the vanilla game before returning to your current work, you can use this to go between them quickly. To load a project, double-click it in the list.

Opening a project

There are a few ways to open a project:

  • Press the Open button and select a project folder
  • Press Ctrl+O and select a project folder (can be done in any tab)
  • Double-click an item in Recent Projects
  • Automatically loading the last project you used when you opened EBME
    • You can disable this in Settings (File -> Settings -> Load most recent project on startup)

Saving a project

There are two ways to save a project:

  • Press the Save button
  • Press Ctrl+S (can be done in any tab)

Reloading a project

This is actually a shortcut for opening the same project again. So make sure to save your changes first! This function is good for when you have edited sprites or similar. Just be careful that EBME doesn't overwrite any changes you made outside of the program. Like saving, there are two ways:

  • Press the Reload button
  • Press Ctrl+R (can be done in any tab)
