| In the **PARALLEL** round, one mapper created a beatmap for **mimizu**, and the other created a beatmap for **MARETU**. In the **SWAP** round, the mapper who created a beatmap for **mimizu** now created one for the **MARETU** song that their teammate had mapped in the previous round, and vice versa. However, this came with a significant limitation: their interpretation and approach to mapping the song had to be unique. The more similar the two difficulties of the same song were, the more they would be penalised by the judging panel! This highly experimental limitation forced mappers to think outside the box and create cohesive, interesting maps, without stepping on each other's approach to mapping the song. If mapper A chose to map the obvious approach, mapper B was incentivised to choose something less obvious! | ||

| The top 6 of each round progressed onto the final stage, the results of which can be found in our last newspost from [January](https://osu.ppy.sh/home/news/2026-01-11-vocaloid-mapping-contest-3-phase-1-results-new-featured-artist-epiaeon). In that newspost, we also announced the third and final Featured Artist, **ePiaeon**! |

| Of course, this contest would not have been possible without the people working behind the scenes. In particular, { flag=SE }:: [Walavouchey](https://osu.ppy.sh/users/5773079) provided an incredible amount of support throughout every stage of the event. Simply put, this would not exist without him. | ||

| Thank you as well to ::{ flag=US }:: [Pishifat](https://osu.ppy.sh/users/3178418), who helped bring **mimizu**, **MARETU**, and **ePiaeon** into the Featured Artist lineup. Expanding the Featured Artist catalogue is a core part of what makes the Vocaloid Mapping Contest special, and this would not have happened without that effort. |
