Usage: ------ * fill.rb -h Running fill.rb will generate a .mod (model) file suitable for solving using glpk. An example commandline for the glpk invocation is included at the top of the model file: /* to run: glpsol --intopt --tmlim 40000 -m ./models/lincoln-h.12.mod\ -o ./models/lincoln-h.12.sol */ Note that glpk does not support the --intopt option all OSs, for example 64-bit linux. If this is the case glpk will bail after finding the optimal soultion, while preparing to find the integer optimal solution. If --intopt is not supported the model can still be solved, just don't use the --intopt option. Depending upon the size of your model it may take a while to get to the point of solving the integer optimal problem so you will want to test with a small model, 1 set, just to make sure everything works together, before solving a larger model. * glpk --intopt --tmlim 40000 -m ./input.mod -o output.sol Running glpk on the .mod should results in a .sol (solution) file (it may take a while, a LONG while, depending on the size of your model and your options.) For models that do not limit the orientation of the dominos to only horizontal or only vertical, I find that anything bigger than approximately 16 may not be solvable in a reasonable amount of time/RAM on a modern CPU as of 2008. With an all-horizontal or all vertical portrait I have solved 64 set problems in hours. When solving, you may get lucky and chance upon an optimal solution quickly, it's all statistics. Note that there is timelimit set on glpk, this will stop you run after the specified number of seconds At that time you may end up with a non-optimal solution or no solution. There does not currently appear to be a way to say solve to within x% of the optimal solution and then stop. * to_dom.rb -h # generates a .ps file to stdout You should be able to print this file to a postscript printer. I have seen some problems with the postscript generated not printing the first page. Turning the .ps file into a .pdf (using ps2pdf) seems to solve the problem. The Gnu MathProg, used in the model, is a subset of AMPL.
