A preview of the main coaching session page (rapidly evolving)
A web frontend built on Next.js that provides a web API for various client applications (e.g. a web frontend) that facilitate the coaching and mentoring of software engineers.
The platform itself is useful for professional independent coaches, informal mentors and engineering leaders who work with individual software engineers and/or teams by providing a single application that facilitates and enhances your coaching practice.
This is a Next.js project bootstrapped with create-next-app.
When running locally on a development machine you can manually set the application's configuration through a .env file at the root of the source tree:

This project includes a comprehensive testing suite with unit tests, integration tests, and end-to-end tests to ensure reliable state management and user interactions.

Note: E2E tests (.spec.ts files) are now organized alongside unit tests in the __tests__/ directory, mirroring the source code structure for easier navigation and maintenance.

All tests should pass before merging code. The test suite is designed to:
- Catch state management regressions
- Prevent logout/session bugs
- Validate user interaction flows
- Ensure cross-browser compatibility

This project uses GitHub Actions for continuous integration, release builds, and deployment.
- Branch CI: Automated linting, testing, and Docker builds on every push/PR
- Release Builds: Multi-architecture production images triggered by GitHub releases
- Deployment: Manual deployment to DigitalOcean via secure Tailscale VPN
- PR Previews: On-demand preview environments via manual workflow dispatch

This repository supports isolated preview environments for pull requests. Preview environments are deployed manually via workflow dispatch β they are not created automatically on PR open or push.

Deploy β Go to Actions β "Deploy PR Preview (Manual Select)" β Run workflow
- Select a PR branch entry from the frontend commit dropdown (PR number is extracted automatically)
- Choose the backend commit from the dropdown
- Dropdowns include the latest
maincommits plus the HEAD of every open PR from both repos - For any commit not in the dropdown, paste the exact SHA in the override fields

Cleanup β Automatic when the PR is closed or merged (containers, volumes, images pruned)
Note: Dropdowns auto-refresh on every merge to
mainand on every PR update. Run "Refresh Preview Commits" manually only if you need an immediate update.
Access URLs are posted as a comment on your PR. Requires Tailscale VPN.
Each preview environment includes:

| Backend (Axum) | API server built from the selected backend commit |
| Frontend (Next.js) | Web app built from the selected frontend commit, served at /pr-<NUM>/ |
| Migrator | Runs SeaORM migrations on startup, then exits |
- Build time: ~5-10 minutes (ARM64 native builds with multi-tier caching)
- Dangling resources: Automatically pruned on each deploy and cleanup to prevent disk/network exhaustion
- Stale environments: If a cleanup fails, the next deploy prunes orphaned resources
