Version 4.000
A release with improved support for rendering minority languages. Two font packages are also in this release - Namkio (Khamti) and Deemawso (Kayah Li).
Version 3.950 beta (test release)
We are happy to announce the release of Padauk beta 3.950 along with a special Namkio Khamti font package. This is a test release in preparation for version 4.0.
We really need people to install and use the font . We would like you to review and give us feedback (with screenshots) on anything unexpected that you encounter.
This font provides a complete set of all the Myanmar script characters in the Myanmar, the Myanmar Extended-A blocks and Myanmar Extended-B blocks with feature support for many languages. Please try to use the Regular and the Book (along with their respective bold) typefaces.
Testing in InDesign, LibreOffice, Word, XeTeX, Paratext, Bloom, SAB, etc would be especially welcome. Screenshots of the problems you see will be especially helpful.
We really want feedback!
Tell us if it all worked great.
Tell us what apps you tested it in
Tell us what operating systems you were using
We would like to have all feedback in by July 12.
Below is a list of all the important changes to the font that we’ve made since the Padauk 3.003 release (two years ago).
31 May 2019 (SIL WSTech team) Padauk beta Version 3.950 (test release)
- Add glyphs to support minority languages
- Improved support for rendering minority languages, especially Khamti,
Sgaw Karen, Tai Liang, and Asho Chin - Added glyphs for typesetting and web font support
Version 3.003
This version is a maintenance release. It was built using ttfautohint 1.6 which now has support for the Myanmar script. The previous version used an old ttfautohint version with a bug that caused it to fail with FreeType 2.7.1.
Version 3.002
This version has added optimization in the build process which reduces some of the table sizes (mainly GPOS and GSUB) which also reduces the file sizes. This is important for web servers since speed is a factor.
File names (not internal font names) were also changed for this release. They are named Padauk-Regular.ttf, Padauk-Bold.ttf, PadaukBook-Regular.ttf and PadaukBook-Bold.ttf
Version 3.001
This version fixes a bug that changes lower ASCII characters from being marks to spacing characters. In many apps, this bug caused these characters to be stripped of their spacing and resulted in a jumble of letters. Although the intended use of this font is mainly for Myanmar script characters, this is a significant update if you ever use the Padauk font to also type Latin script characters in your documents.
