I am an experienced Engineer based in Canada, with a broad range of expertise spanning printed circuit boards, silicon chips, software, and, most recently, code-based mechanical CAD libraries.
I am working on the novel concept of code-based mechanical CAD, or Code CAD. While this is a relatively new field, there are countless benefits to designing with code, as millions of software developers can attest. Specifically, I have two projects in progress:
-
build123d: a python-based, parametric, boundary representation (BREP) modeling framework for 2D and 3D CAD. Using an intuitive python syntax, build123d allows for the creation of complex models that can be exported to popular CAD tools such as FreeCAD and SolidWorks. The resulting models can be used for a wide range of manufacturing processes, including 3D printing, CNC machining, and laser cutting.
-
cq_warehouse: a parametric part library specifically designed for Code CAD. Instead of downloading and managing CAD models for nuts, bolts, and bearings, cq_warehouse allows users to generate the exact part they need on demand.
Your sponsorship is key to expanding the scope of build123d and implementing new features such as:
- Porting cq_warehouse and my OpenSCAD gear_warehouse to build123d as a parametric part libraries
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
- Solvers
- Better integration with display systems
- User requested features - what would help you complete your project?
With your support, we can push the boundaries of Code CAD and make it accessible to a wider audience. Your funds will be used to cover development costs and ensure that these projects continue to evolve and improve over time. Thank you for considering sponsoring my work!
