Tips for non‐rhotic accents

Josh Bleecher Snyder edited this page Oct 31, 2023 · 3 revisions

Many accents (e.g. Australian) are non-rhotic, that is, many Rs are not voiced. That can cause issues for grammars designed by rhotic speakers (e.g. American), e.g. the default alphabet.

One user says:

As an aussie, my suggestions: don't be afraid to tweak the alphabet a little, I've especially benefitted from air -> amy. also add custom versions of commands that aren't getting detected well, but so far my issues are moreso in "say xyz" than other commands. sometimes I give up and say a troublesome word in an american accent but this is super frustrating :P

Another user who is "from near Oxford originally" shared these alphabet alterations:

b,bill
i,inch
p,pan
s,sure
w,will
