Changes under the hood for WP-OTIS 2.0.0
What's Changed
- Addresses #66
- Adds Transportation Services OTIS characteristics to the Type taxonomy
While this update should not actually make any immediately noticeable difference to your WP-OTIS usage, exercise caution when upgrading and make a backup of your database before proceeding. The 2.0 designation reflects a significant change to the code that updates and inserts POIs.
Our testing for this change produced a seamless experience, but nonetheless, it is potentially disruptive because of way the plugin references ACF fields during sync. The relevant code was changed to improve compatibility for some sites which have their own custom fields that share a name with one or more WP-OTIS fields. This should allow more robust integration with custom themes and plugins going forward, but is worth checking for yourself, and testing the sync process on a development server before deploying to your live site. In addition, going forward, the OTIS transportation services characteristics will be included in the Type taxonomy for POIs. If you want all those terms to be integrated immediately, we recommend running a full sync of all OTIS data after upgrading. Otherwise, the terms will be gradually integrated over time as POIs that include them are updated on OTIS.

- Refactors Importer code to address type filter param confusion
Plugin Version Standardization
Individualized POI Processing
Overview
This update significantly improves the reliability of the plugin as well as simplifies log messaging.
Changelog
- Post import batch process scheduling functionality has been rewritten to schedule individual processing jobs for each update returned from the OTIS API.
- Logging has been updated with new messaging to reflect the import change.
General Notes
- In testing we have found that while some POIs take significantly longer to process than others, they have all finished importing successfully. This meant that at times the importer took 5 or even 10 minutes to report any new activity if it was a particularly complex POI.
- At times the importer is able to run several jobs at once and will appear to log overlapping activity, this is expected.
Auto Imports Timezone Fix
Overview
This fix adds an explicit timezone to the automatic imports feature in the plugin. The timezone is set to American/Los Angeles.
