2.0 Alpha 2 Pre-release
Pre-release

This is the second alpha release of 2.0 and probably the last one. Nearly all of the missing features are back now and I am getting things ready for the final release.

Note: Clear the app data if you are updating from an older version!

What's changed since Alpha 1?

Dropped support for 4.0 and 4.0.4

TrebleShot no longer supports those two versions. The reason is the backend requires at least TLSv1.2 and those versions don't have that.

Android 4.1 and above are still supported.

Selection editor

It is once again possible to edit your selections. The difference from 1.4.2 is now it shows the thumbnails and categorizes them depending on their types.

Categorize music, photos, and videos

It is now easier to browse the content on your device. Music section now has 4 different inner sections allowing you to browse albums and artists. Also, Photo and Video sections group content by folder.

Change storage directory

In Alpha 1, this option was partially removed, but now it is back. To change it, navigate to the Receive section.

No more pulling data from GitHub

The app was using GitHub APIs to gather information about updates, changelog, and contributors. It is not the case now. We are keeping the changelog data local, and no longer check for updates. Contributors section is sadly gone now.

Receive section is useful now

Previously, that section was seemingly useless. It now uses a feature of uprotocol that checks whether the client you pick is sending something and navigates you to correct places when it does.

And lots of improvements & bug fixes

Those above are the most prominent changes in this release. However, it also includes many bug fixes and improvements.

In closing

As this is an alpha release, I'd rather get issue reports after I release the first beta version.

Cheers!

2.0 Alpha 1 Pre-release
Pre-release

This is the first alpha release of version 2.0 which is also the first release in 2 years. A lot of things have changed since then (which I am going to mention in the final release), however, to give you a glimpse:

  • I have rewritten the project in Kotlin.
  • We are making heavy use of architecture components.
  • The communication backend is now a separate project called uprotocol that will open up the capabilities of TrebleShot to other projects by other developers.
  • Encryption support (a built-in uprotocol feature)

Give it a try!

Although there are some unimplemented features and bugs here and there, the backend should be stable, which means you can exchange files. In the meantime, I will close more issues as we approach a stable release, so feel free to report yours when you encounter one.

The major events can be found in the 2.0 milestone.

Cheers!
