Adding shows

  1. I want to subscribe to a show but it doesn't appear in the list.
TVShows is not in charge of the list of shows, it is retrieved from another partner. If you want to add a new show, please request it to ShowRSS (by mail, showrss@karmorra.info, or through their twitter account). They are really nice and they will see if they can add your show. Then any new show will be automatically available in TVShows!

  2. Can I get my shows from sites other than ShowRSS?
Not at this moment, but custom RSS feed support is on our roadmap. Nevertheless, ShowRSS gets the shows from EZTV, the most reliable source for TV shows torrents.

  3. I subscribed to a show, but some episodes are missing.
It's an external issue. If the last aired episode is not on the list of available episodes (you can access that by clicking on the image of the show), it's probably because ShowRSS and EZTV don't have it either. We don't know why. With custom RSS feed support you should be able to work around this issue.

  4. How can I download past episodes?
After you've subscribed to a show, click on the image to access the list of available episodes. You can manually download past episodes by clicking the arrow next to the episode name.
However, TVShows is aimed at downloading shows as they are aired, so not all past episodes from a show are available to download. If that's the case, you can get it from EZTV.

Troubleshooting

  1. I'm running Tiger (10.4). Can I install TVShows?
Sorry, TVShows 2 is Leopard (10.5) and Snow Leopard (10.6) only. There were only few users left running Tiger so we had to drop support.
You can still install TVShows 0.4.8, though. It doesn't work as seamlessly and it relies on ezrss.it which is kind of unstable, but most of the time it works.

  2. TVShows isn't checking for new episodes.
In version 2.0b6r2 (r397) a reboot was needed for the background process to start checking. Please download the newest version from our website, since this bug has been addressed in version 2.0b7 (r461).

  3. TVShows isn't connecting to the internet, but my connection is fine.
Maybe you're using a firewall or proxy (like Little Snitch) that blocks outgoing connections from TVShows or System Preferences, check the configuration of your firewall/proxy.

  4. Some random torrents are not downloaded.
Check the log (in the "About" tab -> "View logs") for errors like this one: ERROR: [393 ~ Main App] Unable to download file: Stargate Universe — 2x18.torrent http://redirect.karmorra.info/7449f3deb8a1c4c38a9838836c524696.torrent
Try to access the links and see where they get you. ShowRSS uses redirections to several sites, including zoink.it and The Pirate Bay.
Sometimes the sites are down and TVShows can't retrieve the torrents. TVShows will keep trying, so don't worry, it will eventually download them.
It could also happen that ShowRSS is redirecting you to a site that is banned in your country (for example, The Pirate Bay in Italy), in that case we can't do anything about it (you will be able to work around this when custom RSS feed support is available).

Language support

  1. How can I change the language of TVShows?
The language of TVShows is controlled by the setting in the International Preference Pane. You can add or remove languages and order them as you want, then every application (including TVShows) will run in the selected language.
Bear in mind that if TVShows is not translated to your language, it will run in the next language in the list, and ultimately in English.
If you want to help translating TVShows to your language, you can join the translation team at WebTranslateIt. Request an invitation and we'll get back at you.

  2. I have selected another language but some texts still appear in English.
The translation is a work in progress, made by volunteers, so if a text is not yet translated, it will show in English.
If you want to help translating TVShows to your language, you can join the translation team at WebTranslateIt. Request an invitation and we'll get back at you.
