Competition / Inspiration

Splitwise

https://www.splitwise.com

Split expenses with friends. Share bills and IOUs. Make sure everyone gets paid back. Totally free for web, iPhone, and Android.

Does everything Grouptabs does feature-wise and much more. It feels more complex due to more features / use-cases and it's very explicit about amounts and paying back.

Grouptabs tries to be simpler and focuses on not focusing on money.

The solution for organizing group expenses. Perfect when organizing group activities like trips, holidays, meals or when sharing flat expenses with roommates! Make your life easier - let everybody add their own expenses and Tricount will calculate for you all the payments in order to stay on balance!

Pretty much exactly the same as Grouptabs. They have native apps, web, support offline and focus and simplicity.

Spend it together.

Tabbt is the companion for your everyday life. Sending money to friends and sharing payments has never been easier. In a nutshell, Tabbt is the new way to pay – shared, free, fast and secure.

iOS and Android apps. Seems to focus on the integrated payment solution.

iCashBox

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/icashbox/id423247835

iCashBox is an App that makes managing your deposits and withdrawals with friends easy. No matter what kind of personal cash system you have, iCashBox helps you to keep track of the tab and shows you who owes who, and what has been bought.

Quite similar to Grouptabs but iOS-only and no collaboration (single-user).

Splittr

Splittr helps you to split costs between you and your friends. It is perfect for vacations, weekend trips, nights with friends or even for the household. Simply add expenses as you go and Splittr will tell you who is next to pay, who needs to pay what to whom or it generates an entire report at the end which you can email to your friends.

iOS-only and no collaboration (single-user).

Meteor.js experiment.

trek/split

take the busy work out of splitting up expenses between your friends. no registration. no cost.

Very similar to Grouptabs, also doing the no-registration way with hashes. The interface is very difficult though, to the extent they even have a "Help" to enable which explains a lot. They don’t do splitting of a single expense apparently as every expense is tied to and listed under a person. They also do an additional breakdown of who owes whom how much, which is a bit duplicating the +/- list.

👍 Good things they do: You can put in an email to invite others. And you can set a passcode for a group for further protection.
