XProc Community Group Meeting in Cologne, Nov. 9+10, 2019

Venue

An important update: The XProc meeting will take place in a different room:

Cologne Center for eHumanities, Universität zu Köln

Room 4.11, Universitätsstr. 22 (Google Maps shortcut, coordinates: 50.9263643, 6.9275678)

There will be signs outside and inside the building.

Please note that, regardless of what Google Maps says, Universitätsstr. 22 is the orange building, not the gray/green one.

The venue is provided by Gioele Barabucci and Peter Dängeli of the Cologne Center for eHumanities (CCeH) in collaboration with the Haller Project (an extensive user of XProc).

We will probably start at 9:00 or 10:00 on Nov. 9, at 9:00 on Nov. 10, and we will finish by 15:00 on Nov. 10.

Accommodation

Please make a reservation yourself. Some of us are staying at or around Hotel Chelsea, so please look in the same area in order to facilitate social planning. Options include:

  • The Chelsea itself (AB stays here)
  • Steigenberger
  • Esplanade
  • Flandrischer Hof (GI stays here)
  • Weber (MK stays here)
  • Boutique Hotel 026 Köln St. Michael
  • Pension Jansen

GI 2019-09-05:

You can make a reservation on Flandrischer Hof’s reservation system. This is advantageous for the hotel compared to booking via booking.com et al. You can still cancel the booking until arrival day, 18:00. You don’t have to leave you credit card number for the reservation. The downside is that the booking is only guaranteed until 18:00 on the day of arrival. You might need to call them and tell them that you will arrive later.

For leisure travelers, the city of Cologne charges 5% on top of the accommodation cost as a so-called “culture fee”. At Flandrischer Hof you can specify that you are traveling for business and that you need an invoice with your company’s name on it. Maybe this is sufficient for them not to charge the 5%. I’ve seen that at other places, you need to present a statement issued by your employer that you are a business traveler. Otherwise they’ll charge you the additional 5%.

dmaus 2019-09-09: There is an official form (of course there is a form!) for this: Statute on Charging a Tax for the Promotion and Advancement of Culture (Official Form).
