All of these caused Clippy warnings: Clippy didn't always make great suggestions for a fix.

This PR gets the test suite into Clippy-shape (as is not uncommon, Clippy taught me a couple of useful things!). Finally, it runs Clippy on the test suite in CI so we (OK, mostly me!) don't let through so many things through.
