Anthracite Browser

The Open Source "Do It For Me" Browser.

Anthracite is a desktop browser that replaces the URL bar with a Command Bar. Instead of navigating yourself, you tell the Agent what to do, and it drives the browser for you.

Features

  • Command Bar Interface: Deeply integrated into the browser chrome.
  • Persistent Sessions: Log in once, and the agent remembers you.
  • Stealth Mode: Uses browser-use to mimic human behavior.
  • Local Privacy: Your session data stays on your machine.
  • Customizable Themes: Light, Dark, and System modes.

Tech Stack

  • Frontend: Electron, React, TypeScript, TailwindCSS
  • Backend: Python, FastAPI, browser-use library

Production Builds

Local Build

To create a production build locally:

npm run build

Artifacts will be in the dist/ directory:

  • macOS: .dmg and .zip files (arm64 + x64)
  • Windows: .exe NSIS installer
  • Linux: .AppImage

Automated Releases (CI/CD)

The project uses GitHub Actions to automatically build and release for all platforms.

To trigger a release:

  1. Create and push a git tag:
    git tag v0.1.0
    git push origin v0.1.0
  2. GitHub Actions will build for macOS, Windows, and Linux
  3. A new GitHub Release will be created with downloadable installers

Required GitHub Secrets (optional for signing):

  • CSC_LINK, CSC_KEY_PASSWORD - macOS code signing certificate (base64-encoded .p12)
  • APPLE_ID, APPLE_TEAM_ID, APPLE_APP_SPECIFIC_PASSWORD - for macOS notarization
  • WIN_CSC_LINK, WIN_CSC_KEY_PASSWORD - Windows code signing certificate

Builds work without these secrets, but won't be signed.
