Potential brands (not all these listed below have been contacted, or given permission, these are just possible ideas):

Mostly/fully ported:

Brand Ported? Author contacted? Author has SDK access? License Art License Name License Notes
Bogaudio >90% Yes, supportive Y GPLv3 CC BY-SA
NANO Modular 100% Y, supportive Y ??TBD Maybe needs better low-res graphics and text names for jacks.
Geodesics 100% (not all features tested) GPLv3 CC-BY-NC-SA Cannot use
Valley all but Dexter and Terrorform Y, supportive GPLv3 not specified not specified
ChowDSP all but FDN, RNN, and Chorus Y, supportive GPLv3 not specified not specified ChowTape works but uses >93% processor
Geodesics Yes Y, supportive GPLv3 in discussion in discussion
Kocmoc Yes Y, supportive GPLv3 OK OK
Stellare Modular Yes Yes, supportive Yes, authors are porting source code not open in
Venom >90% No GPLv3
Impromptu < 25% No GPLv3 CC BY-NC Not for use
BaconMusic < 50%, no artwork No - GPLv3 not specified not specified artwork is dyn. generated, needs PNGs
Count Modula 100% (not all modules tested) Yes, supportive Y GPLv3 Author grants permission to include PNG art: provided "the layout is unmodified and the distribution retains the current non-derivative license." see Art License Led button used in multiple modules is off regardless of state
Rack Fundamental (Core) > 90% Yes Y GPLv3 art not allowed not allowed needs original PNGs. Needs libsamplerate for VCO2 and LFO2
Orange Line 100% Yes ( << is this true?) Y GPLv3 not specified not specified
Airwindows 100% Yes, supportive Y GPLv3 Original art used OK Can merge into upstream airwin2rack repo. TODO: Modify VCV hub to perform a special-case transformation of the AirWindows module into what module its dataToJson says is selected

Actively being looked into or worked on:

  • Vult: Author has been given the SDK. License?
  • Prok Modular: Author has been given the SDK. License: not open source (or maybe GPL?)
  • Surge XT: Difficult to port directly (lots of dynamic widgets). Possible to use config data to generate CoreModules. License: GPLv3. Artwork: ?. Name: ?
  • Sapphire: component positions are dynamically read from SVG files. Need a static solution.
  • Prism: WIP

(below is edited from comment by mhetrick)

Easy picks:

  • Valley. Plateau is the most popular reverb in Rack. uGraph and Topograph add Mutable's Grids. Everything in here is top-notch.
  • Airwindows. Over 100 great quality open-source plugins put into a single effects module.
  • Count Modula. Another huge, all-encompassing collection like Bogaudio. Adam also makes "Lunetta," which as you might imagine is a large collection of CMOS-simulation modules.
  • Geodesics. Very popular collection of experimental sequencers, mixers, and oscillators.
  • Venom. A newer collection of very useful modules with hardware-like interfaces. Rhythm Explorer in particular is very cool.
  • Prism. A port of SMR but with an interface that's more ideal for VCV (and potentially, the MM).
  • Sapphire. Super cool collection of physical modeling and chaos. Don was the one who modeled the Sloth for the NLC collection.
  • chowdsp. Jatin Chowdhury's collection of analog-modeled effects. The ChowTape effects would be a lot of fun to have in a hardware rack.

Excellent modules, but potentially dicey interface porting:

  • Voxglitch. Awesome collection of granulators and samplers. Interfaces could be an issue.
  • Monome. More of a moonshot, but if the MM USB-C port could work with the hardware grids, this could be incredible.
  • MindMeld. My favorite collection, but might be too "heavy" for MM. Shapemaster is my pick for the most versatile module, but it would likely be a bear to get working properly on there. Mixmaster is in every patch I make.
  • Frozen Wasteland. QAR is my favorite generative rhythm sequencer in VCV. Not sure how well the interfaces would translate to MM, though.
  • Path Set. Another personal favorite. A mix of open-source and commercial modules, some sequencers, some granular, etc. A lot of original ideas that don't try to emulate existing modules.

Free and/or Open-Source Hardware Clones. Useful modules, but you'd probably want to reach out to the other companies:

  • ALM Busy Circuits. Probably unlikely to get MFX or Pam's Pro on MM, but it would be cool to have their free collection (Pip Slope, Mega-Tang, Beast's Chalkboard, etc.)
  • Alright Devices. Three very, very good effects.
  • Bastl. Currently just the Kompas.
  • Erica Synths. Pico Drums in particular would be awesome on the MM.
  • Grayscale. Supercell in particular would be a better interface for Clouds on the MM since everything is directly accessible.
  • Instruo. Very unlikely since all of these are actively manufactured and the VCV collection hasn't been updated for ARM.
  • Jasmine and Olive Trees
  • RebelTech
  • Starling Via
