Isolating mEDBG on Microchip Xplained boards for HV Tolerance

Dlloydev edited this page Jan 6, 2022 · 4 revisions

Note that the documentation for the Xplained evaluation boards has no information regarding high voltage tolerance of the programming pin. As shipped, all programming pins (UPDI or DBG) are NOT 12V tolerant.

This example shows additional clarification on disconnecting mEDBGon the ATtiny416 Xplained Nano evaluation board. (Schematic)

Note:

  • If using HV Mode on your HV UPDI Programmer, at minimum, you'll only need to remove the R200 jumper.

  • If using PCHV Mode, this provides a target power cycle, therefore Power disconnect (VCC jumper) and complete mEDBG disconnect (R200, R201 and R203 jumpers) needs to be removed.

  • Now the target / HV UPDI Programmer connections can be made to VCC, GND and UPDI/PA0.
