Week 11 | Progress Update & Stand Up
During Week 11, we had to present our completed work and explain our current status on any complications or issues throughout our team to the tutors. Each member explained their role and what was expected of them for the next couple of weeks leading up to the final presentation. The following was mentioned:
- Completed: User tests of the Paper prototype and a few target audience surveys completed.
- To be completed: User tests of the Marvel Application/Target Audience to be completed, to focus on dynamic map functionality/AR functionality and possibly a dynamic chat where automated messages would respond
- Completed: User tests of the Paper prototype and a few target audience surveys completed.
- To be completed: User tests of the Marvel Application/Target Audience to be completed, designing the team logo that best represents the product/application, designing stickers for promotional purposes for the final showcase, assist Hamish and Nemo with the conference poster and kickstarter video but to mainly focus on iterating the Marvel application for the final prototype.
- Completed: User tests of the Paper prototype and a few target audience surveys completed.
- To be completed: User tests of the Marvel Application/Target Audience to be completed and; designing/creating the conference poster and the website that will help communicate the concept to our audience on the final showcase.
- Completed: User tests of the Paper prototype and a few target audience surveys completed.
- To be completed: User tests of the Marvel Application/Target Audience to be completed and; to plan, film and edit the promotional kickstarter video that captures the problem space, the solution, the concept and the different implemented functionalities
From our stand up with Daniel and Craig (tutors of DECO3500), we were presented with a dilemma where only one of four members was working on the functionality of the application and the rest were on promotional materials. The problem started because we thought it’d be best to work on everyone’s strengths, however it is important for each member to practice their weaknesses and try different aspects of design when the time presented itself.
After the stand up, we had a group meeting out of class and discussed changes in the allocation of work which would evenly distribute the functionality and promotional materials. From the discussion, we finalised that David would aim to design a dynamic map that showcases the core functionalities of the map required for our concept and possibly create Augmented Reality capabilities for the application. Momoka would write and finalise a video script for Rong to film the kick starter video and design/hardcode a dynamic chat function where it would demonstrate a simple chat between host and guest. Many small significant details were discussed throughout this meeting as we needed to make decisions before it was too late such as developing on IOS or android devices. As most of the group had IOS devices, it was the preferred platform due to accessibility during the final showcase. However, from previous practical sessions with our tutors, it was mentioned that cross-developing between IOS devices to Windows PC or Android to Mac was not recommended for the AR functionality and would create complications later down the track. Therefore, we collaboratively decided on designing with android devices which included using android scaling on the MarvelApp, google chrome capabilities for the map functionality and Unity/Vuphoria compatibility for the Augmented Reality function.
By the end of the week, we all started the design process of the application and the additional promotional material everyone was assigned. Momoka presented a few mock-ups of the application logo (DuoBud).
