New annotation-centric ontology

Emanuele presents again the new top-level division of the “CIF top” ontology. The goal is to be able to represent everything --- all the relationships, but also all the CIF data names.

The three major hierarchies:

  1. DictionaryDefinedItem
  2. Structure (the data structure)
  3. Type

Through annotations, the meta-meta level can be expressed, i.e., all the DDL concepts and annotations. Many of the annotations have no direct impact/meaning in OWL and the ontology, but rather for the reader.

CIF/TTL parser/conversion tool

Potentially, have a CIF parser extend not just the individuals and the knowledge graph, but also the ontology itself with classes, e.g., for locally-defined data names.

Rickard: The new version of the CIF top ontology starts to also define the syntax of a CIF file - is this what we want?

Joining loop “tables” is always a left outer join operation.
