- Emanuele Ghedini
- Jesper Friis
- Rickard Armiento
Recounting meeting at the beginning of July. Emanuele recounts the meeting at the end of July with him and Saulius.
Emanuele: Regarding last meeting, I suggested (on the ontology development side) to:
- start creating a script to automatically generate the ontology following the annotation based approach
- consider some example CIF test files to be ontology represented to check the overall approach usability
Casper: We want to definitely keep developing the CIF-ontology. However, we also want to start discussing a general EMMO-based crystallography ontology, starting from a definition of “crystal” (separating it into a real and ideal crystal). The initial definition of Crystal could be based on the IUCr definition: https://dictionary.iucr.org/Crystal
Emanuele in response to the question: How to create OWL relations from annotations? We need to convert all the information we can from the dictionaries
We need a CIF to OWL (instance) parser tool (and OWL (Instance) -> CIF).
Emanuele: For the new EMMO-Crystallography domain ontology it is important to consider all the aspects of the domain, to be sure to reach as far a community and definition space as possible. Rickard: For crystallography, specifically, this is not an issue, since the IUCr is a very strong authoritative entity in the domain of crystallography. We’ll use the Online Dictionary of Crystallography to discuss the definitions and relational shape of the new “general” crystallography ontology.
