CineRat 01 Idea and Requirements

Till Blaha edited this page Aug 28, 2024 · 1 revision

Idea: build a small indestructible drone that doesn't do too much damage and has decent T/W (around 3-4) to make initial testing easier. Smaller also helps signal-to-noise, because rotations will be faster (inertia is to the power of 2, prop moment arm only power of 1.)

Requirements

  • easily available
  • T/W at least 3
  • weight below 250gr, Update 18-12-2023: not achieved, around 400gr
  • flight time doesnt really matter
  • support telemetry feedback of crucial data (voltage mainly)
    • if no other live telemetry possible, then flight log readout should be very quick.
  • ESC supports bi-directional DShot
    • BLHeli_32 (firmware version 32.7 or newer)
    • in principle BLHeli_S can be upgraded with BlueJay, but better to just get a 32bit controller with out-of-the-box support for BLHeli_32 for now.

Models investigated:

  • Tiny-whoops/trashcans: 30-40mm props. Super small, super light
    • too small for decent flight controllers/ESCs. Update 18-12-2023
  • 3" racing quads: seem perfect. Some frames available for full size (30.5x30.5 FC stack, such as the Mateksys H743)
    • Are likely heavier than 250gr, closer to 350gr.
    • H743-SLIM V3 already available, running betaflight
  • anything bigger would be too heavy
