Game Roadmap

Kyle J. Kemp edited this page Mar 1, 2018 · 2 revisions

Here's where the game is:

  • 3 playable zones (in Antania, the first of 7 regions)
  • 2 instanced dungeons (in Antania)
  • 1 subscriber-only convenience map
  • Max level is 18
  • Max skill is 15

This has taken about 9 months (at the time of writing, 2018-03-01) since the first commit on 2017-05-27. This is not 9 months of constant work, but rather, periodic work, real life picking up, etc. The initial engine took about a month to write, there was a bit of back-and-forth trying to stabilize the core, moving around between a few technologies internally to try to speed things up, etc. Where the game is now, it seems to be pretty stable, so there is mostly a need for content development.

That said, here's where I want to be, eventually want to be:

  • 21 playable zones (~3 for each region)
  • 21 instanced dungeons (~1 for each zone)
  • Max level of ~50
  • Max skill of ~30

It takes about a month for me to solo create a zone, add quests, come up with items, add new skills, and fill it with creatures (plus some time to let players test it). So, at the current rate, it would be about another year and a half to get all of that done.

There are a few major systems that will be added between then and now, as well, such as player housing, guilds, and a trading post, all of which will take a non-insignificant amount of time.

With help designing content, I can drastically cut down the time to create new content since I'll generally know what needs to be done, and then I can offload it onto players to test. Also, with players submitting their own content (maps, etc) I only have to periodically review it, which means the game can get bonus maps made while I'm also working on content.

This page will be updated periodically.
