Level 2

Background - Level 2

To continue with the theme of Windows, level 2 was associated with Windows XP. To make this distinguishable, we used a royalty free version of the classic green landscape background and created “error messages” that use the same colours, font and layout as Windows XP.

This was the green landscape image used:

To make the background more interesting yet still aligning to the theme, the following mood-board was created with the following colour scheme:

Level 2 Moodboard

The original thought of the background was the gradient using the pinkish-blue colours and then adding different components on top. As User 4 from the user testing stated that "Windows OS" related to "very base level colour scheme", we decided these colours gave the background a bit more excitement yet allowed it to still be distinguishable as Windows XP. Then using the small buildings underneath to continue the theme. Then, the “error message” was created and put towards the end of the background to enforce the “virus taking over” idea of the game and cause a sort of tension. The error messages being overlapped with each other also continues the theme.

Lastly, the goal of the first half was to incorporate the green landscape image and break it into bits as if the image is “breaking apart” in the computer. We then added different texts and images to add more tension.

Draft 2

After some user testing, a few things were deleted due to them being “too intimidating and distracting” (see user 4).

Draft 3

An addition of more smaller boxes was added that were more pixelated to make the first and second part of the background more integrated. We also added more error messages to create more tension.

Draft 4

Finally, with some more user testing, pink and blue boxes were added within the pixelated landscape image in order to integrate the pinkish theme (see User 5).
