need much more economic formalism, math

Read:

  • James Mirrlees: Optimal Income Tax Theory, in particular 1971, in Review of Economic Studies
  • Myles: Public Economics (difficult), especially Chapters 5, 6 on Policy Reform
  • Ockenfels on Fairness
  • Stefan Honburg: Allgemeiner Steuerlehre (Vahlen)
  • Varian: Microeconomic Theory
  • Pyndick & Rubinfeld

Random idea: make an income tax with a bell-shaped marginal tax rate to maximize incentives at every level (says Traub, says Mirrlees)

Make this PhD into: Optimalsteuer für Nutzerdependenzen Old vs. new welfare economics

Attend

  • Also: a micro lecture by traub himself @ BIGSSS
  • maybe something at Uni oldenburg?
  • Micro Lecture at Uni Bremen
    • By Elsner, apparently somewhat Keynesian, somewhat evolutionary Micro Lecture at Uni Bremen
