The Grandfather Clock add-on offers a variety of settings that can be configured to personalize your experience. All changes are saved automatically and are stored on your computer.

How to access the options

On most internet browsers, you can view your list of installed add-ons by clicking on the "Extensions" button on the toolbar. This typically looks like a puzzle piece and is located in the top-left side of the window. This list should include the Grandfather Clock add-on. Clicking on the three dots or gear icon should display a list of options. You can open the add-on options by selecting "Options" or "Manage Extension", although the exact wording may vary depending on the browser you are using.

If you are on Firefox, this will open a new tab with details about the add-on. You must select "Options" from the tab on that screen. This will typically be listed between "Details" and "Permissions". All other browsers, will open the add-on options directly.

If you are unable to find the add-on options on your browser, please refer to your browser's support website or documentation for more information.

Available options

Chime volume

This setting controls how loud the chime plays on a scale from 0% to 100%, where 0% is muted and 100% is the loudest possible volume. Changes to this setting are applied immediately and can be tested using the "Preview chime" option (see the "Previewing chimes" section below).

Chime sound

This setting controls which chimes are played. The add-on comes with multiple presets available, including:

  • Clock Tower
  • Cuckoo Clock
  • Grandfather Clock
  • Multiple Beeps
  • Single Beep

Custom chimes

In addition to the multiple available presets, you can also create your own custom chimes. This can be done by selecting "Custom" from the "Chime sound" drop-down. Doing this will enable additional options to add an audio file for each hour. See the Use custom audio page for more information about this feature.

Previewing chimes

You can preview what your chimes sound like using the "Preview chime" section of the options page. To preview a chime, select the hour you want to previous and press the play button. You can stop the preview at any time by pressing the stop button, which is visible when a chime is playing.

If the play button is disabled for a specific hour, it means that you have not added a custom audio file for that hour. See the Use custom audio page for more information about adding custom audio files.

Timezone

For most systems, the Grandfather Clock add-on will be able to automatically detect your timezone if you are using the "Use System Settings" option in the timezone drop-down.

However, some browser settings, system settings, and privacy extensions may prevent the add-on from detecting the correct timezone. To fix this, you can select the appropriate timezone from the drop-down menu. The date and time information displayed below the drop-down will update automatically to reflect your new settings.
