You should delete your RTG config folder if updating from 1.0.0-snapshot-1.

RTG-1.8.9-1.0.0-snapshot-1
IMPORTANT! This snapshot is for TESTING purposes only, and you should NOT update an existing world to this version (especially a world that you care about). This snapshot is meant to be used on NEW WORLDS only.
Team RTG is pleased to announce the first SNAPSHOT release of RTG version 1.0 for Minecraft 1.8.9.
This snapshot is essentially an exact copy of the 1.7.10 version of RTG, which means that it contains all of the latest terrains, surfaces, decorations, world gen, config options, and performance optimizations that RTG has to offer, including scenic lakes, volcanoes, and the ability to grow RTG trees from vanilla saplings.
In addition to bringing the 1.8.9 version of RTG up-to-date with the 1.7.10 version, we've also added biome support for Highlands: Uncharted Territory (the 1.8.9 version of Highlands).
Also, when the final 1.0 version is released, all of the terrains will be locked down and won't change again unless there's a serious bug, which means that all future updates to the 1.8.9 version will be backwards-compatible with worlds created with v1.0. So if there are any biomes that you think could be improved, you have about a week to give us your suggestions. Speak now, or forever hold your peace!
For all of you fine folks who will be downloading and testing this snapshot, please post any crash reports or bugs here on the forums or on our issue tracker on GitHub.
Enjoy! :)

RTG-1.7.10-1.1.0-snapshot-1
IMPORTANT! This snapshot is for TESTING purposes only, and you should NOT update an existing world (especially a world that you care about) to this version. This snapshot is meant to be used on NEW WORLDS only.
In an effort to increase mod compatibility even further, and to resolve a few outstanding issues related to RTG interfering in other world types, we have re-written RTG's internal event management system. We've released this snapshot in hopes that some of you kind folks will give it a test drive and let us know if anything unusual happens.
It's important that the 1.1.0 snapshots are tested extensively, as we will be porting this new event management system to the other RTG versions for 1.8.9 and 1.9.4, so if you love RTG and want to contribute something back to the community, please consider testing this snapshot and reporting anything unusual in the forums or by creating a new issue here.
Changelog
RTG-1.8.9-0.2.0
This version should be compatible with worlds created with RTG-1.8.9-0.1.0 if you are not using Minestrappolation.
If you are using Minestrappolation (or plan on installing Minestrappolation), you should create a new world if you want to prevent chunk walls.
Either way, we strongly recommend that you backup your world before updating, just to be safe.
Changelog
Surfaces
- Savanna Plateau & Mesa biome variants now use more Coarse Dirt to prevent grass from spreading.
Biome support
- Added biome support for Minestrappolation 4 (Redwood Forest & The Frost) - whilst both biomes are generating in RTG worlds, a lot of other world gen from Minestrappolation is not. We have submitted some code to the Minestrappolation team which should fix this issue, so hopefully when the next version of Minestrappolation is released, both mods will be fully compatible with each other.
Under the hood
- RTG's realistic versions of vanilla/modded biomes no longer extend BiomeGenBase, resulting in greater overall mod compatibility, especially for mods that use a previously-incompatible type of biome checking.
RTG-1.7.10-1.0.1
This version is compatible with worlds created with RTG 0.8.x and later.

- Fixed issue #531 - OceanCraft now fully decorates beaches with villager huts, seashells and quicksand.
Under the hood
- RTG's realistic versions of vanilla/modded biomes no longer extend BiomeGenBase, resulting in greater overall mod compatibility, especially for mods that use a previously-incompatible type of biome checking.
