Date: 2022-05-13
Attendees:
Nagendra (RSG)
,
Garth (DKS)
,
Gary, Neil (Pierce County)
Action Items
- RSG team will forward a draft model design document – by May 20th.
- Nagendra to forward Gary info on PierceCast vs SoundCast - by May 20th.
- Gary\Neil to forward traffic counts
Design
- Thinking about how to resolve differences between travel delays and driver behavior not captured in the sub area.
- Where traffic signal exist and where they add delays. ex. meridian have 14 network nodes but 20 signals along the corridor. What about missing nodes? Similarly what about other routes, ex. canyon.
- Neil - every signalized intersection should have a node in the model. He will confirm. He is also fixing some network issues.
Zones
- Thinking proof of concept run for runtime.
- Garth to follow up with Peter Bosa. multithreading and runtime improvement.
- County wants to add a few MAZs along a few corridors. If not too many, perhaps we add those as tazs in the emme network itself. Demand model will also benefit. Also, networks will be consistent.
Focus Time Period
- Focus is PM peak period. For now, not worried about AM peak.
Demand Interval
- 15mins. Depends on the observed data, e.g. traffic counts.
Traffic Counts
- Available in 15mins. Currently put into time periods but can be dumped out in 15mins. Gary\Neil to forward.
- Turn movement counts in 2-hour period
- Trucks and commercial vehicle counts – in spreadsheet format
Other
- DTA runtime expectation – should be reasonable, not in days.
- Model application
Model Development
- Have a working version of PierceCast model - updated network and zones in the SoundCast model
- Found a few issues in summaries, resolved them. Looking at more summaries.
- Before making other improvements, working on a design memo to define specifications.
Base Year
- 2018, the same as PSRC’s current SoundCast.
PopulationSim
- For the base year, using SoundCast population files by simply updating the zone system.
- For scenario alternatives, need to implement PSRC’s PopulationSim for the county.
- PierceCast vs SoundCast - Gary's presentation on May 25th. Nagendra to forward info before end of next week, by May 20th.
The wiki describes the basic theory and process to use PierceCast for travel modeling applications.
