Orientation: Projects

Our community hackspace has been the breeding ground for many exciting, varying projects that have emerged from the fertile brains of our lovely members. For current projects see below:

Ideas for new endeavors, no matter how big or weird, are always encouraged and there is almost always someone who’s willing to help. If you have an idea for a project, try to get at least three members together to work on it and create a GUILD on the AO as your first step. Projects in the past have been as simple as organizing the screws and nails on the work bench and as complicated as a four day crypto-convention. To get an idea for what is possible, DCTRL has been a place where members have:

• Built props for film
• Filmed music videos
• Done naked yoga in the dark
• Created software and programs
• Learned and taught programming
• Built a soundroom/recording studio
• Brewed beer
• Created RFID payment systems for vending machines
• Sorted clothing for social workers on the DTES
• Had an easter egg hunt
• Crowdfunded and built a computer to run VR

Projects that focus on blockchain and cryptocurrency are strongly encouraged with small allowances for unrelated projects, depending on interest, approval and demand for space.
