Profile Coverage

IHE focuses on the development of integration profiles leading to interoperability within different domains in healtcare. The focus of XDS Toolkit is on the Document Sharing collection of profiles published by the IT Infrastructure domain of IHE. Document Sharing has been adopted and extended by the Radiology domain so some covered profiles come from that domain.

Each IHE Domain published updates to its Technical Framework each year. A Technical Framework is the collection of specifications that have advanced to Final Text status within each domain.

Profiles may contain options (optional behaviour). In addition, new profiling work is first published as a supplement to the Technical Framework. Supplements are considered "in development" and are not as stable as work committed to the main body of the Technical Framework.

Work on Document Sharing spans sections of the IT Infrastructure and Radiology Technical Frameworks including options and newer supplements. In discussing profile coverage here we will ignore the maturity status of the work and even the profile/option/supplement structure and refer to work by its technical short name or key feature since that is the most common reference used.
