Notes

The group continued its review of the cmi5 profile instance (see link below)

Jason Haag reviewed features of the xAPI profile specification for the cmi5 group (including profile identification and versioning).

The group discussed the following topics:

  • The xAPI profile server currently acts as a reference for xAPI profiles. (i.e. it is a "curation pool" for xAPI profiles). It is useful for browsing and discovery of profiles but not validation/checking rules.

  • There was an extensive discussion on how the xAPI profile could be used with a cmi5 conformance testing suite and how the xAPI profile server's functionality might be extended (at some point in the future) to support this

  • cmi5 is a unique profile in that it has rules that cannot be expressed in the xAPI profile specification structure so it would require a conformance testing tool to check rules (i.e. xAPI profile validation would be not sufficient by itself for cmi5 conformance testing)

  • As discussed in previous meetings, there was concern that the xAPI Profile Specification needed clarification to clearly state that the specification referenced (e.g. the cmi5 specification) in a given profile structure has precedence over the profile specification for determining conformance. Jason Haag agreed to review the related sections of the xAPI profile spec and propose changes.

  • cmi5 does not have the notion of "attempts" within a session. (That another reason why "cmi5 allowed" statements are very important

Discussion for next meeting

Review cmi5 profile to verify accuracy with cmi5 specification.
